Hello,

In my company, we're starting on a new project for our product.
We work in a full Microsoft/.Net environment (VS, WCF, Silverlight, RIA Services, Enterprise Library, SQL Server ...).

The new project is based on ASP.Net MVC3. The fact is we want to produce HTML5 to be ready for target classical browser and also tablets. So, we found Kendo UI that seems great for that. Then, we "found" (we use RadControls for Silverlight already for the entire existing applications) your MVC controls. And now, wedon't know which technology use.

Our project use so ASP.Net MVC 3, but we want to maximize actions client-side with complex actions (actually it's an admin web app with actions like dynamically open/clos tabs with ajax) so maybe your MVC controls are more flexibles to do that.

I read the MVC FAQ on the Kendo site but I'm no further ahead .

Can you advice me ?

Best regards,
Guillaume

Hello Guillaume,

I think that the answers to questions #5 and #6 in the public MVC FAQ summarize the information you are looking for.

Kendo UI is appropriate for client development when one of your main goals support desktop and mobile platforms. Telerik Extensions for ASP.NET MVC, on the other hand, supply all the needed features you would expect from native MVC extensions and built-in robust support for WebForms and Razor view engines.

For your particular case (judging from the description you provided), you may consider using either solely Kendo UI Web or a combination of Kendo UI and our MVC extensions, if suitable. Note that in long term we plan to converge the two products to make use of the best that both worlds put on the table.

I hope this info helps.

Sebastian

HI there,

In a months time I am going to start new module in existing application that has telerik .net MVC controls all over.

question 1) I will appreciate if you can give me more info about your long term plans on converging. I am guessing we might have to use kendo with .net MVC wrappers provided by telerik. Is it right?????

question 2) I want to plan accordingly for future so please guide, shall I use MVC .net extensions or kendo?

question 3) when can i expect kendo .net server side MVC wrappers? If required I can delay my project for a little bit.

Thanks,
Ali

Hello Ali,

Onto your questions:
  1. Yes, as explained in the MVC FAQ, Kendo UI and Telerik Extensions for ASP.NET MVC will be eventually congregated into Kendo UI MVC extensions. This will most likely happen by mid 2012, however at this point we are not able to commit to an exact timetable for that.
  2. You can develop ASP.NET MVC web applications with the Telerik MVC extensions for now, later there will be a migration path to transition to the Kendo UI MVC extensions.
  3. See point #1. If possible, you may put off the start of your new project a bit (to dodge the migration process), and estimate its completion for the second half of year 2012.

It is good news to know that Kendo and MVC extensions will merge into 1. Mid 2012 is not too far away :)

Finally, I can use telerik tools with java or .net or php. Am I right???

Will telerik provide wrappers for java and php too??? Or do they support Microsoft only =)

Hello mohammed,

The Kendo UI MVC extensions are first on the pipeline. After that we will consider implementing PHP and Java extensions as well. Keep in mind that you can use the core Kendo UI client framework and UI widgets with any server framework even now, as Kendo UI is platform-agnostic.
