I'm getting the message: "Microsoft Document Explorer cannot be shown because the specified help collection 'ms-help://telerik.windows.controls.silverlight' is invalid.

What should I do?

Hello Eric,

Could you give more details on how you get the error?

Are you getting this when starting the help from Visual Studio?
What is the VS version?
Are you trying to open the documentation manually?
Is it Vista / XP

In the meantime you can refer to our online documentation, available here:

Hello Eric,

Unfortunately, I could not reproduce this problem. I guess this may ba a matter of an installation issue.

There will be a Service Pack released until the end of the week. Could you please try installing it, and make sure that the Visual Studio or Document Explorer are not running during the installation.

Greetings,

Yup I have the same problem:
When I try to open the docs via the start menu I get exactly the same message. In Vista.

The shortcut in the start menu links to:
"C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\Help 8\dexplore.exe" /helpcol ms-help://telerik.windows.controls.silverlight

Hi Ciaran, Eric

This usually happens when there is a mix-up in the registry. you can try this, go to the folder where the documentation is installed, usually this one  C:\Program Files\Telerik\RadControls for Silverlight Q2 2009\Documentation if you haven't changed the install path. Then run UnRegisterHelp.bat  and after it finishes run RegisterHelp.bat. Usually this helps. Let me know if you still have problems.

Best wishes,

I've just uninstalled previous version and installed 2009.3 1103 (Nov 3, 2009) and it seems to contain broken documentation as well. I'm using Windows 7 (x64) and installation path is "Program Files (x86)". Tried calling unregister.bat and then register.bat but nothing helps. The only way opening documentation for the moment is launching "ViewHelp.bat" that is not very convenient actually.

Hi Denis Vuyka,

The documentation shortcut does not point to the correct help path and most probably that is the cause of the problem.

The original documentation shortcut links to:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Help 9\dexplore.exe" /helpcol ms-help://telerik.windows.controls

but the correct path is :

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Help 9\dexplore.exe" /helpcol ms-help://telerik.windows.controls.silverlight

If you could open the properties window of the documentation shortcut you should be able to replace the Target string with the correct one. Once you have the correct shortcut target you should be able to open our Silverlight documentation.

All the best,

Hello Sree Rachakonda,

Are you referring to our latest installation (Q1 2010) or an older one? Also, could you please share more information about your system - operating system, 32bit or 64bit..

Kind regards,
Milan
